Insulation manages to regulate temperature by slowing down the movement heat within your room, building or apartment. There are different types of insulation and some materials are better insulators than others. In order to truly understand how the temperature is regulated you need to understand how heat movement.
Heat moves in three different ways i.e. convection, radiation and conduction. If you remember the lessons from physics class in high school you will know that radiation is actually the transfer of heath via electromagnetic light waves which are of course invisible. It is similar to you feeling heat being radiated by a fire or by sunlight that is entering through your window. Conduction of heat takes places when heat is moving though an object. Which means that the more densely packed the molecules are the faster is the conduction of heat. Convection is the transfer of heat though both air and fluid.
It is important for you to understand that insulation does not in any way stop the movement of heat or block heat in any way it just slows down the process of its transfer. The R-value you come across in many different types of insulation is the resistance posed by insulation against the flow of heat. The higher the R value the better it is at stopping the flow of heat. The R-vale is usually calculated on a per inch basis. There can also be two or more insulators that have the same R-value which means that they will perform the same. The only difference here might just probably be the price. roof insulation (Dachdämmung) is particularly important within the home as heat rises, meaning that a house lacking in roof insulation will not be as energy effecient as a house with roof insulation.
Today many large buildings use reflective insulation to maintain a building’s core temperature. The transfer of heat can be regulated both during the summer and winter as required. Reflective insulation works great since it is not affected by the weather and requires no special clothing and handling.
There are a number of products which can be purchased to use as insulation depending on what you want to achieve. Materials like synthetic fibers and glasses help regulate the flow of heat during hot summer times in order to lower your electricity consumption by appliances such as air conditioners. Fiberglasses are often used for the purpose of heat insulation where the objective is to contain the heat within you room or apartment during the winter time to lower your reliance of an internal heater.
